Bergen kjøtt is a creative workplace, production house and cultural centre in the neighbourhood of Skuteviken and Sandviken in Bergen. The establishment is located in a former production factory built in 1905, reopened as an art and cultural venue in 2010 by Bergen Contemporary Art Project (BCAP).
In 2019, a non-profit foundation, Stiftelsen Bergen Kjøtt, took over the establishment and welcomed their general manager Eva Rowson on board. Since then, Eva and her team of amazing people have been developing its 3 physical functions to meet the needs of their community, strive to create inclusivity, accessibility and diversity to welcome everyone to its space,
– A cafe/project room on the 1st floor for workshops, exhibitions and meetings
– “Fabrikkhallen”, a large venue space appx 250 m² on the 2nd floor for music events, audiovisual exhibitions and performances
– 28 studio spaces with a majority of musician and sound artists’ residencies
As a staple musical and cultural institution in Bergen, Bergen Kjøtt facilitates its studios’ operation, collaborates with various public events and continuously supports artists, musicians, cultural workers and organisations at different stages in their development. There are regular GRIP (sound technicians) courses and workshops supported by Bergen Kommune — the governmental organisation in Bergen and Vestland municipality, to uplift and maintain the art and cultural community’s ecosystem.
Bergen Kjøtt continuously collaborates with many local and international organisations in Bergen and worldwide, bringing world-class arts, cultural and educational productions to Norway.
